Once you have made your penguin, please either:
Drop the penguin into The Fold in Billericay, if I am not there running a workshop please leave with one of the volunteers at the reception (they have been cleared as safe agents)
or
Drop the penguin to me in Rayleigh, either message me for my address (you can send them by post or I will be leaving a little box outside my house for you to leave them in) or I am running a workshop at the Half Moon Pub in the High Street on Mon 20th October 12pm to 3pm so you are welcome to pop in to drop it off then.
Who can take part?
Anyone! Whether you are local or from far afield, whether you have felted before or are a complete beginner. I would love you to join in with us to bring a bit of community festive cheer.
When do you need them by?
Could I have them by 15th November please to allow me to fix them all together on the topper!
How do I get the supplies to make them?
I have a limited number of kits to buy at the next few workshops, they include all the wool you will need and the glass eyes - cost of £5 which includes a £3 donation to Changing Pathways Charity.
I think mine is too big/too small/a tad wonky
Penguins come in all shapes and sizes, ALL penguins are very much wanted and will be so gratefully received, please still join in and add your lovely creation to our topper!
Where will the finished post box topper go?
The plan is currently for Billericay High Street (shhh)
Won't it get damaged or stolen?
It's always a gamble, they is a small chance somebody will damage it or take our penguins BUT last year it was left alone and much enjoyed by the shoppers in Rayleigh High Street until I took it down after Christmas. The weather was a bit grim too but the wool is tough, water resistant and will withstand being outside in the elements.
Can I have my penguin back afterwards?
Ah, I am afraid not. Last years mice survived well have been kept and may be used in a new project so I will keep the penguins and hopefully they can be repurposed for another display!
How will I be able to see my Penguin?
I will post on social media when the post box topper is up and give you the location. ALL penguins I receive will be added on to it, I suggest you make yours with something distinctive on it for you to spot it easily - maybe a particular colour scarf, hat or accessory?
How about a bag, fishing rod with a little fish, maybe a little coat - or it could be as random as you like, there are no rules! We had a nun and priest mouse last year, use all your imagination!!
I will share lots of videos and photos too so if you can't see it in in person hopefully you will still spot your penguin :)
Do you have to get permission from Royal Mail?
The official stance from Royal Mail is that they think post box toppers are fun and are happy to have them installed as long as they don't interfere with the function of the boxes.
Is this for charity?
It's really just for fun but I will put a sign on the topper with a link for people to make a donation if they wish to our adopted local charity Changing Pathways.
I have another question...
Happy to answer, just send me a message!
